한국과 5시간의 시차 때문일까요? 두바이의 새벽은 유난히 일찍 찾아왔어요. 창밖으로 쏟아지는 눈부신 햇살에 눈을 뜨니, 아직 새벽 5시 30분! 낯선 곳에서의 설렘 때문인지 시차때문인지 피곤함도 잊은 채 하루를 서둘러 시작했답니다.
호텔 조식을 든든히 챙겨 먹고 로비에 모이니, 오늘 하루 우리를 꿈의 세계로 이끌어 줄 가이드님과 버스가 기다리고 있었어요. 버스에 오르자마자 창밖으로 펼쳐지는 비현실적인 풍경들에 입을 다물 수가 없었죠.

숨 가쁘게 달려 다음으로 도착한 곳은 'JBR 비치'예요. 드넓은 해변 너머로 보이는 세계 최대의 대관람차 '아인 두바이'를 배경으로 또 한 번의 인생샷을 남겼죠. 이후 7성급 호텔 '버즈 알 아랍'의 위용을 버스 차창 너머로 감상하고, '수크 마디나트 주메이라'에서 버즈 알 아랍이 가장 아름답게 보이는 뷰 포인트를 찾아냈답니다. 이국적인 건물과 운하, 그리고 버즈 알 아랍의 조화는 그야말로 환상적이었어요!

A Complete Guide to Day 2 in Dubai
Discovering the true face of a dazzling city where past and future coexist
Hello, my blog's precious readers! This is Idea. Maybe it was the 5-hour time difference with Korea, but the dawn in Dubai came exceptionally early. I opened my eyes to the brilliant sunlight pouring through the window, and it was only 5:30 AM! Perhaps due to the excitement of being in a new place, I forgot all about fatigue and started the day in a hurry.
After a hearty hotel breakfast, we gathered in the lobby where our guide and bus for the day were waiting to lead us into a world of dreams. As soon as I got on the bus, I couldn't keep my mouth shut at the surreal landscapes unfolding outside the window. "Before oil was discovered, Dubai was a small fishing village that survived on pearl diving and trade," the guide's fascinating explanation greatly amplified our anticipation for the journey ahead.
This is the Place! First Impressions of Dubai
Our first destination was the 'Dubai Frame'. An enormous golden frame standing tall in the middle of the desert – isn't it just overwhelming? With the old city on one side of the frame and the new city on the other, it felt like a giant gate connecting the past and the future. The photo I took with my other half in front of the frame (this very one!) became one of the best shots of our entire trip!
Next, we headed to 'Al Seef'. It's a place that recreates the look of Dubai in the 1950s, and with its traditional mud-like houses and charming shops, I felt like I was traveling through time. It was truly amazing that such a space existed right next to a forest of modern buildings. During our free time, we wandered through the alleys and stopped in our tracks at the sound of sweet Arabic music coming from somewhere.

Before the impressions of Al Seef could fade, we headed to the real old city, 'Deira'. The highlight here was the 'Abra' experience, a traditional boat that crosses the Dubai Creek. The happiness of just 1 dirham (about $0.27 USD)? As we boarded the old wooden boat with travelers from many different countries, I felt like we were entering the very heart of Dubai with the cool river breeze.
The view from the boat was magnificent. The old buildings and bustling merchants looked like a painting. And a little later, we returned to the modern era. The sense of awe when we stood before the world's largest shopping mall, 'The Dubai Mall', and the sky-piercing 'Burj Khalifa'! To see the very spot where Tom Cruise dangled precariously in the movie <Mission: Impossible> right before my eyes made my heart pound. Unfortunately, we couldn't go up to the observatory this time, but just seeing its magnificent presence was enough.
Breathlessly, we arrived at our next stop, 'JBR Beach'. We captured another perfect shot with the world's largest Ferris wheel, 'Ain Dubai', in the background beyond the vast beach. After that, we admired the grandeur of the 7-star hotel 'Burj Al Arab' from the bus window and then found the best viewpoint for it at 'Souk Madinat Jumeirah'. The harmony of the exotic buildings, the canal, and the Burj Al Arab was simply fantastic!
A Must-Try! Encountering Dubai on Your Tongue
Now that our eyes were delighted, it was time for our mouths to be! We had lunch at a buffet where we could taste a variety of foods. For dinner, we chose a more special menu.
A Holy Grail for Koreans: Grand Gourmet
As a place where travelers of various nationalities gather, it was a buffet-style restaurant with dishes from all over the world. It was great because there were many menu items that even people sensitive to spices could enjoy without hesitation. The fresh seafood and grilled dishes cooked on the spot were particularly excellent!

A True Local Favorite: An Unnamed Hot Pot Restaurant
For dinner, we went to a hot pot restaurant recommended by our guide. Since Dubai is a place where people from all over the world live, the traditional Chinese dish hot pot is a popular dining choice for locals as well. The taste of dipping fresh lamb and vegetables into a spicy red broth and a mild white broth! It felt like all the fatigue of the day was melting away.
Reason for Recommendation: The spiciness and warmth that re-energize a body tired from a tight tour schedule!
Insider Tip: Try making your own sauce without the staff's help! Mix a little minced garlic, cilantro, sesame oil, and oyster sauce into the peanut sauce (Zhīmajiàng) to create a magical sauce that's perfect for the Korean palate.

At the end of a breathless day, we returned to the hotel and wrapped it up with a glass of 'Jack and Coke', made with the Jack Daniel's we brought from Korea. The conversation we had while looking at the splendid night view outside was sweeter than anything. Dubai was not just a glamorous city. It was a living city where past, present, and future coexist, constantly creating new stories. If you want to feel the diverse charms of a city in a short time, and if you want to experience a futuristic city that you thought only existed in your imagination, there is no place like Dubai!
