안녕, 이데아의 여행 서랍 독자 여러분! 푹푹 찌는 요즘 서울 날씨에, 문득 작년 5월의 그 뜨거웠던 도시가 떠올라 여행 서랍을 열었어요. 바로 제 반쪽과 함께 떠났던 4박 6일간의 두바이 여행 이야기랍니다. 이번 여행은 좀 특별했어요.

대한항공 왕복 항공권과 호텔, 조식까지 포함된 패키지였는데, 세상에, 항공료만 따로 끊는 것보다 저렴한 거예요! "이건 못 참지!"를 외치며 홀린 듯 결제했죠.

여행의 시작은 공항부터! 꿀팁으로 야무지게

저희 부부의 4박 6일 여정은 5월 18일, 인천공항에서 시작됐어요. 장기 주차는 늘 고민인데, 이번엔 신한 The Classic+ 아멕스 카드로 사전 예약해둔 무료 발렛 서비스를 이용했답니다. 역시 여행 고수는 카드 혜택부터 야무지게 챙겨야죠? (으쓱) 덕분에 아주 편안하게 공항에 입성!

출국 수속을 마치고 비행기 타기 전까지 뭘한다? 바로 라운지죠! 마티나 라운지에서 간단히 배를 채우고 여유를 즐기니 비로소 여행이 실감 나더라고요. 하지만 10시간의 비행은 역시나 만만치 않았어요. 아무리 국적기라도 긴 비행은 온몸을 뻐근하게 만들더군요. "아이고, 허리야..." 소리가 절로 나오는 순간, 비행기는 드디어 두바이 땅에 사뿐히 내려앉았습니다.

새벽의 두바이 공항, 후끈한 공기가 우리를 반겼어요. 피곤함에 눈을 비비며 가이드 미팅 장소로 향했는데, 어디선가 익숙한 얼굴이 보이는 거예요. "어? 저분 혹시...?" 네, 맞습니다. 한때 '웃찾사'에서 활약하셨던 개그맨 황영조 님이 저희의 현지 가이드셨어요! TV에서 보던 분을 여기서 만나다니, 피곤함이 싹 가시는 신기한 경험이었죠. 개그맨 출신답게 어색한 첫 만남을 유쾌하게 풀어주시는 입담 덕에 앞으로의 여행이 더욱 기대되더라고요.

모든 여행의 시작은 설렘 반, 피곤함 반이죠.
특히 가성비를 넘어 '갓성비' 패키지를 발견했을 때의 짜릿함,

A. 네, 정말 더워요! 공항 밖으로 나가자마자 사우나에 들어온 기분? 하지만 모든 실내는 에어컨이 정말 빵빵해서 '냉방병'을 걱정해야 할 정도랍니다. 얇은 가디건은 필수예요!

A  Tumultuous Entry into Dubai with a Comedian Guide

Hello, readers of IDEA's Travel Drawer! With Seoul's sweltering weather these days, I was suddenly reminded of that scorching city from last May, so I decided to open my travel drawer. This is the story of my 4-night, 6-day trip to Dubai with my other half. This trip was a bit special. It was a package deal that included round-trip tickets on Korean Air, a hotel, and breakfast. And you won't believe it, it was cheaper than booking the flight alone! We just couldn't resist and booked it in a heartbeat. Today, I'll share the story of the day we took the very first step of this exciting journey.

The Journey Begins at the Airport! Making the Most of Perks

Our 4-night, 6-day adventure began on May 18th at Incheon Airport. Long-term parking is always a hassle, but this time, we used the complimentary valet service pre-booked with my Shinhan The Classic+ Amex card. A savvy traveler has to use those card perks, right? (Feeling proud!) Thanks to that, our arrival at the airport was incredibly smooth.

After clearing immigration, what do you do before boarding? The lounge, of course! We filled our stomachs at the Matina Lounge and enjoyed a moment of relaxation, which finally made the trip feel real. However, the 10-hour flight was as challenging as expected. No matter how good the airline is, a long flight always leaves your body stiff. Just as I was groaning, "Oh, my back..." the plane finally touched down gently on Dubai's soil.

"You Look Familiar..." Our First Meeting with the Comedian Guide

The warm air of the Dubai airport greeted us in the early morning. Rubbing our tired eyes, we headed to the guide meeting point, and I spotted a familiar face. "Huh? Is that...?" Yes, it was true. Our local guide was none other than Mr. Hwang Young-jo, a comedian who was once on the popular Korean comedy show 'Utt-cha-ssa'! Seeing someone I'd watched on TV in person was a surreal experience that washed away all my fatigue. With his witty humor, true to his comedian roots, he broke the ice of our first awkward meeting, making us even more excited for the trip ahead.

Following our guide, we moved to the hotel and were assigned our room, but it was already the middle of the night. To recover from the long flight, we washed up and threw ourselves onto the bed. So, unfortunately, I don't have a single photo from our first day. By the time we woke up, it was already the morning of Day 2. The full-fledged Dubai story, complete with photos, will begin in the next post, so please wait just a little longer!

That's how our first day flew by. A 10-hour flight and the first night's sleep in a foreign land. But this isn't the end! In the next post, I'll show you the real Dubai that we faced after waking up. The start of every journey is half excitement, half exhaustion.
Especially the thrill of finding a package deal that is an incredible steal,
the small luxury of enjoying an airport lounge,
and even an unexpected encounter with a unique character (a comedian guide!).
It was a day that showed us that even without the main story, the beginning of a trip can be thoroughly enjoyable on its own!

Q1. How was the direct Korean Air flight to Dubai?

A. It was comfortable, as expected from a national carrier, but 10 hours is 10 hours! It was tough nonetheless. Still, the wide selection of movies was great for passing the time. You know a neck pillow and comfy slippers are must-haves for long-haul flights, right?

Q2. Is the weather in Dubai in May really that hot?

A. Yes, it's incredibly hot! The moment I stepped out of the airport, I felt like I'd walked into a sauna. However, every indoor space has the A/C blasting so powerfully that you have to worry about catching a cold. A light cardigan is a must-have item!

Q3. Was the package tour guide really a comedian?

A. He really was! Thanks to him, our bus rides were never boring. The guide is a crucial part of a package tour, and I think we got lucky right from the start. I'll share more of his hilarious antics in the next post!
